The most expensive piece was unsurprisingly a Patek Philippe. The 3974 model ended going for an impressive 4,2 million Euros.Like PP, Rolex has over the years had other company’s names stamped on their dials. The most famous example would probably be the Comex divers, issued to the French undersea engineering company. One Comex-branded Sea Dweller went for approximately 72,000 Euros. Another more peculiar example is the Cartier-branded Submariner of the “red” kind (pictured above), made by Rolex in the 1970s and retailed by Cartier. Pretty cool stuff, considering how Cartier, especially nowadays, is a real Replica IWC watches in their own right. Not the mention the drool-inducing patina and blue bezel… The watch ended up selling for just over 122,000 Euros.More high quality pictures of the watches sold can be found at Antiquorum’s website.
At an auction in Hong Kong, famed Replica IWC watches auctioneer Antiquorum recently concluded the 2009 bidding season with what you would have to consider a success. 82% of the 479 lots for sale went for 115% of the estimated value. On the other hand, Antiquorum has a tendency to approach their estimations with the same philosophy as Ryanair does with flight times – grossly misjudge them and you won’t have any delays. Whether this is deliberate or not we shall leave unsaid, however, the auctioneer did predict that the Rolex Submariner owned by Steve McQueen was going to sell for something like $ 10,000 – $ 20,000, which anyone with half a brain could spot as ridiculous (the Replica IWC watches ended up selling for $ 234,000).Anyhow, the latest auction did provide us with some interesting pieces.
